Profile Information

About Me:
I am a teacher of young children at various schools in Yamaguchi-ken, Japan. I have been living here for 10 years. I started my first blog (and my second!) this February with the help of TESOL's EVO Blogging4Educators. I am originally from Port Alberni, Canada. Can you find it on a map? (Hint: it's in BC on Vancouver Island.)

Hi Alison!

Thanks for visiting my blog and thanks for the comments. I'm glad you will be a regular reader, I hope I can help...

Also, feel free to comment on my students' presentation or even have your students comment. They would definitely feel thrilled about having comments from Japan.

I loved your blog! It is clean, with nice pics (and a nice voki), and very nice information. But maybe you could change the link in your profile for easier access, it says @blogspot, and it should be .blogspot

By the way, I read in your blog that you got married in Japan, but why did you decide to move there in the first place? I would love to visit Japan, but it seems like such a different place...

Hey Alison, I would love to see the pictures of your trip! My profile picture is from our trip to Ohio last month. It snowed so much, and I'm standing near a frozen waterfall in this picture. My daughter loved experiencing sledding and building a snowman while we were there! Next week I'm headed to NYC for the TESOL conference. Carla and I will share pictures, I'm sure!

Dear Alison,
Thanks a million for taking time to join us. It will be outstanding if we can meet f2f in Japan somehow. I still don't know the details about my tickets. Some of the awardees have been already provided with tickets, but not me. I am still awaiting for the results. So, I can't plan anything exactly until my tickets have been booked.

Thank you again. I am happy to learn that there will be friends whom we'll meet soon.

Keep exploring around here.
Lots of love,
Nina

Hi, Nina and Mary:

Thank you for the welcome and for providing me with more info about the World CALL Conference. I am so excited for all of you scholarship winners! I spent some time looking around the site last night, and unfortunately, I think a lot of the first day workshop topics might be too difficult for me... I am about 2.5 hours from Fukuoka by car and we go there a few times a year. I can probably arrange to be there during the conference, although I will have my whole family with me. My brothers are both bringing their families to Japan for the first time this year and will be here then. I was planning to take them to Fukuoka anyway. If I don't end up going to one of the workshops, perhaps we could still meet for dinner, or I could show you around the day before or after the conference? We are close to Hiroshima, so if anyone wanted to drop by on the way back up to Tokyo or Osaka, or whereever you fly out from.

I will try to add some info about Japan to the WorldCALL wiki in time. Wow, Nina, I love the way you are all cooperating in internet space to share information and get excited about the conference and coming to Japan.

I will look forward to (hopefully) meeting you!

Alison

Hi Alison! Nice to see you again. I have been taking a little vacation from being online, but I am so happy that Blogging4Educators will continue to interact and share here. By the way, the conference is the World Call Conference and it will take place in Fukuoka in August. Anyway, I do hope we'll have a chance to meet f2f sometime!

Thanks, Carla:

It is so great to work with you that I couldn't refuse your invitation! I'm excited about being part of a community like this to practice with. When I get some time, I will go back through the B4E wiki and figure out some questions to ask. My blog has been taking a bit of a holiday, but being here should give me some energy to go and post some more!

Tomorrow, I am going to the daycare (at a temple!) where I teach occasionally to read some books for the kids as a graduating present. I am going to read Duck on a Bike by David Shannon (try anything and everything once) and probably sing the Wheels on the Bus with them. We like making up our own verses. Do you know this song? I know that you mostly work with older students...

Nice to see you again. I'm glad you like the photo. Those are tropical flowers I am holding to my ears. They are shaped like the horn on an old phonograph (record player). I don't know if they make me look like an old person ("eh?!") or a Martian! (When I figure out how, I will turn the photo rightside up and report it....maybe. It is kind of funny the way it is.)

Thank you for the invitation and for the welcome!!
